Logan Allister Buchanan is the eldest of three blond-haired, blue-eyed Buchanan brothers, although there is really very little time between the three of them. Logan was the first born to Allister and Annabelle of Linlithgow in Scotland, and fourteen months later they welcomed second son, Rory to their family. They completed their family with a third son, Austin, another eighteen months following Rory, and the boys grew up very close in their tight-knit family together.
However, things took a bad turn when, after just over a year of being happily married to his high school sweetheart, new dad, Rory, tragically lost his wife and baby daughter in circumstances unknown. They went missing and to this day, 10 years down the track, it is still a mystery what happened to them, though Rory has his suspicions. The experience more than hardened kind-hearted Rory and the way he dealt with his grief was by pushing his family away to the point of becoming estranged from them. They all tried to help, but it just pushed him further and further away. It didn't help when Logan decided to move to London to join the police force, making it difficult for him to continue attempts at getting through to his grieving brother. Shortly after, youngest Buchanan, Austin, joined the British Army with dreams of becoming a paratrooper which also took him away from the family's Scottish home.
Soon the siblings just gave up hope, with contact being isolated to sent birthday cards and presents, with a phone call on Christmas Day. Knowing it was unlikely Rory would even contact his brothers if he needed help, Logan asked Rory's closest friend, Airlie MacKenzie to contact him if Rory was ever seriously hurt. He just always hoped it was a favour never needed to be called on, until his fears came to fruition...
Logan's choice to join the police force came as a result of his father being a long-standing member of the Scottish force before his retirement. However, it became evident that Logan had a natural talent with firearms and a sharp mind in his early training days and his ambition was sparking enough for him to eventually land himself a job as a Case Officer with Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, namley the MI6. He was young when he joined the ranks fresh out of police training, but went on to be a highly skilled agent in a position that saw him often posted overseas undercover during the course of his investigations. He was more than aware that the estrangement between him and Rory was partially his fault in that his job made it more and more easy to cater to the separation. He missed both of his brothers, and never failed to harbour a hope they will one day reunite and be close like the old days.
Logan, however, held a secret no one in his family knew about. His lover at the time - and work partner - of three years, Martin Jessop, is vampire of the Kindred bloodline, and of the Ventrue Clan. It was never a secret that Logan was bisexual, and there was always a chance he would take a serious male lover. Their relationship was no secret, though Martin's true identity was. He lives his life according to The Masquerade and Logan had known the secret since the first few months they were together. It never deterred him from falling in love with his Kindred colleague, or being invited into Martin's dark world, where he would go on to become a Vessel for his lover. They were brought together as partners before they became lovers, and just three months after they started having an affair, Logan nearly lost his life in a case gone wrong.
He was kidnapped by a group of suspects they had been tracking, and after being shot in the back to incapacitate him, he was locked in a car and driven into a river at top speed. It was only the fact he had a tracking device on him that had him tailed by fellow MI6 officers that they were able to free him from the wreck and pull him from the water before he drowned. He was on life support for nearly two months, and discussions of shutting it off had Martin desperately considering Embracing his lover to avoid losing him. Logan started to pull through, though, and took the terrible decision from Martin's hands. It was after that when Martin finally decided to admit the truth to Logan, expecting to lose him anyway because of it, but his conscience over the temptation to Embrace him got too much.
Inevitably, Logan didn't take the news well initially, but the months of painful recovery from his accident proved to him that he didn't want to live without his lover. They reunited and Logan lived with Martin's secret ever, accepting it and understanding that life was just going to be different from that point. It caused Logan to cut off contact from Rory completely, knowing Rory had turned Hunter of supernatural beings following the death of his family, and that his own flesh and blood could be a fatal threat to his lover. He had no idea Rory would eventually came to be touched deeply by the Kindred himself, but had no chance to find out when he was never willing to risk Martin's life at his brother's hands.
Logan's fate was taken out of his hands, however. When Rory got near-fatally injured in France by a bunch of rebel Kindred trying to take down Hunters, and Logan had no choice but to intercept. With Rory badly injured, they reunited and Logan soon had no choice but to tell him about his own connections with the supernatural. But in a twist of fate no one could see coming, Logan found himself with a terminal brain tumour, given just a few months to live, and was staring death directly in the face. The question then became whether he should be Embraced or not, but the decision became more and more difficult as Logan began to lose brain functioning from the tumour. However, Martin knew that Logan would never settle as a Kindred if his patriotic Scottish blood was tainted. Blaise Richelieu, the Kindred Prince of Paris, stepped in and called on his connections with the Scottish female Prince, Ealasaid Loudain... and at the very end of his life, Logan's last sound choice was to be Embraced, the task performed by the Scottish Prince herself.
When Logan re-awakened, he was different. Due to the tumour, he had no recollection of asking to be Embraced and suffered the confusion and anger that could often befall Kindred Embraced against their will. He had fallen out of love with Martin, who had issues with Logan wanting to feed on many others, and sleep with them, having no interest in monogamy or being tied down. He was a wanderer, and couldn't be tied down. Ealasaid, although infuriated by such a reckless childer initially, soon learned that the key to Logan's Kindred's growth was to set him free and give him the freedom he yearned. From there on, with Kindred royalty as blood, he became a powerful Kindred in his own right, but despite being fiercely patriotic, Scotland wasn't where he was destined to remain.
Now five years after his Embrace, Logan has come to reside in New York City, his free-spirited wanderlust tendencies making his Kindred form hard to stick in one place for too long. Scotland will always be his home, but he suddenly finds himself swept up in bloody mess of recklessly Siring a Kindred childer all of his own in a moment of sheer panic that triggered a frenzy from his now lover (and possibly soul mate), Eric Knight, forced to Embrace young yet highly successful New York fashion designer, Asher Rose. He had no idea just what a mess would hit him with that, either...
THE MASQUERADE & ITS CLANS
THE MASQUERADE & KINDRED
Within a vampire bloodline known as The Kindred, seven vampire clans are collectively joined, forming the largest sect of vampires called the Camarilla, and survive through the Masquerade, disguising themselves as humans. Camarilla policy is that vampires should try to fit in with and hide from the rest of humanity, as to easily feed on them. For this reason, they created a web of lies and misinformation, called the Masquerade, to make the public believe that supernatural beings like vampires could not possibly exist. The Camarilla also believes that the only way the vampire species can survive in these modern nights is if it unite. Any breach of the Masquerade by any vampire risks exposing the entire race. Both viewpoints are fundamentally opposed by the Sabbat, an opposing sect to the Camarilla. The Camarilla also enforces the Eldest as ruling class over the younger vampires. The seven clans of the Camarilla are Ventrue, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador, Gangrel, Tremere and Nosferatu. When a human is turned by a Kindred vampire, it is known as the Embrace, the vampire siring the human to embrace them into their own bloodline.
Each city has a ruler, a "Prince" who enforces the laws of The Masquerade that govern them to protect their anonymity. A clan is a group of vampires "related" by blood; i.e. the vampiric equivalent of an extended family or lineage. A clan is usually a large group, acknowledged widely in the vampiric society. Each clan nurture their own characteristics and traits, and each clan has its strengths and weaknesses. Often the clans do not always get along with certain clans such as the Brujah and the Ventrue actually hating one another. Each clan within a given area has a representative, a Primogen, who is usually the eldest and most powerful member of the clan, who attends the leader or prince's advisory council. This status also grants the character social advantages and greater power than being a normal member of their clan.

The Toreador are some of the most beautiful and glamorous of the Kindred. Famous (and infamous) as a clan of artists and innovators they are one of the bastions of the Camarilla, as their very survival depends on the façades of civility and grace on which the sect prides itself. In the middle age, the Toreador were a member of the High Clans, and their numbers were made up of the same types that are common in the modern nights - minstrels, painters, poets and actors. The Toreador revelled in the Victorian age. The Industrial Revolution led to a phenomenon that only the rich had been previously afforded - leisure time. A heyday of theatre, music and art began in cultural nexuses like New York, London and Paris and spread throughout the globe. While the influence of the Church in people's lives (and consequently, the influence Toreador held over the church) waned, those Kindred that latched themselves onto businessmen prospered. Possibly the one thing most Toreador love with the exception of beauty is money, and it was now accessible from places other than the landed gentry of the time. While the Clan has had peaks and troughs, this was a time that cemented them as a true power in the Camarilla.
It is said that while the Ventrue are the mind of the Camarilla, the Toreador are its soul. The Toreador portray themselves as the vampires closest to the living breathing pulse of the humans around them (though this honour might be shared with the Brujah). They claim that this is what keeps them so vital and modern. Indeed, Clan members are often the first ones to be aware of what mortals are wearing, eating, buying and sleeping with. The weakness of the Toreador Clan is that the members of this clan are as much prisoners of their artistic vision and sensitivity as they are its beneficiaries. They are often overcome by the beauty they see around them, and become immobilized with fascination. Such things as paintings, neon signs, or even sunrises can captivate them. It requires a successful Willpower roll to break the fascination quickly; otherwise, the Toreador will stand, awed and helpless, for minutes or even hours. This trait explains why Toreador so often fall in love with mortals.
